Mommy and the boys went on a grocery store run yesterday. We went to the store we usually go to which is a very kid friendly store. By that I mean that they have some shopping carts that have a built in little car on the front that can hold (and seat belt in) two kids. Having the ability to safely confine both boys makes the whole shopping process MUCH easier for Mommy! As an added bonus, since the car has two little steering wheels, they have a good time "driving the cart" too! This particular grocery store also has some children's shopping carts for their "future customers" to use. Since we had a fairly small shopping list, Mommy decided to let Brian have a go at pushing his own cart. He got the normal drill before we got out of the car - "I need you to be a very good boy and do exactly what Mommy tells you" .......blah blah blah. Once Spencer was in his seat in the grown up shopping cart, Brian got to select his own shopping cart. From this point, he was a shopping maniac! He went exactly where Mommy told him to go and got to put the items into his own cart. At one point I told him the next thing we needed to get was milk. As soon as we turned into the dairy isle he made a bee line for the milk! Considering that he cut off several people in the process of racing his cart to the milk display, I guess we still have "shopping etiquette" skills to learn but he did do what he was told to do! When we went to check out, he carefully put the items from his cart onto the belt and watched them move toward the cash register. At that point, he decided he was done and pushed his cart through the exit doors and towards the parking lot. With Mommy chasing behind him, he was informed that we need to pay for and collect our groceries BEFORE we leave the store. For his first solo shopping trip though, he did an amazing job!
PS: Brian has been taking a holiday break but have no fear - his Tool of the Day segment will be returning next week!!!
